“Jeremy Mayer spent more than 1,400 hours at the typewriter in the past year, but he wasn’t banging out a sci-fi novel. Instead, he was building Nude IV, aka Delilah — a 6-foot-tall sculpture made entirely of typewriter parts.

Nemomatic Open Studio Show

Its time to announce my Open Studio and Show Saturday October 24th from 4-8 pm. I have a number of pieces new and old to share, including a brand new big one (see attached flyer)! Expect good food and drink as well.

My shop-mates Quantum Builders (green homes) will also be having an open house so you have that much more of a reason to come.

I don’t get many opportunities to share this many pieces at one time, and even fewer opportunities to meet and talk with you all, so I hope you’ll come if you can

I thought it would be more fun if I kept the new work semi-secret so I won’t post final photos until the week following the show (sorry out-of-towners). If you just can’t wait, check out my news page and you can see some of the works in progress.

Nemomatic featured in “Dementions” group show

Fall has always been my favorite time of year, and Halloween is a big part of this sentiment. What better way to celebrate than a big ‘ol group show of that theme. Dementions will feature more artists than my little fingers can type at the Eclectix Gallery in El Cerrito CA from October 16th through November 29th. I’ll be at the opening on Friday, October 16th from 7-10 pm.

Sculpture exhibit opening at Device Gallery in San Diego

Once again Device Gallery in San Diego is putting on an awesome show of gadgety sculpture. Some of you may be familiar with the book “Fantastic Contraption” that they released last year. This show includes many of the artists who will be featured in their upcoming book “Reconstructed”. The opening is tonight (Saturday July 18th from 6:30-9:30) and will run through August 29, 2009. Device Gallery is doing a great job of defining the style of work that I and many of my colleagues are involved in. It is once again an honor to be showing among so many artists that I admire. I won’t be able to make it to this opening, but I’ll try to post some photos if I can get ahold of them. There is also a nice preview of the works in the show in PDF format on the gallery’s website.

The Neuron Chamber on Laughing Squid

Burstein! over at Laughing Squid posted about The Neuron Chamber:

The Neuron Chamber by Alan Rorie is an electro-kinetic sculpture of a steel and glass frame that contains hand-forged steel and copper model neurons. Even better, the neurons within the chamber create and send beautiful electrical arcs down the interior of the sculpture. These arcs do more than merely look pretty, but they have changed the sculpture itself by oxidizing its innards, giving it a new layer of color and depth.
